Have tried the Heinz as well. Aunties has several things going for it. It’s moister. The portions are single serving, which is nice for a lunchbox. Don’t be tempted to eat it cold though, be sure and heat it since it is microwaveable. Tastes fresher and spongy-er than the Heinz.

I used to have a recipe for making Spotted Dick from scratch in the microwave. I recall when all of us sitting at table said it would be nice to have a dessert and in less than 15 minutes it was on the table with the obligatory "custard" (cornflour dyed yellow) poured on top.
The English of my generation are sentimental about it because it reminds us of the school dinners of childhood, when our mids were at their most impressionable.
I have received similar comments since I made this post from my English friends.
