1969 Freeze-In - Calvin Corp.

Part 1 of 2

Calvin Corporation ("Overs And Outs", "Your Name Here") doing a Laugh-In (#) send up with Arty Johnson and Judy Carne should be pure comedy gold. Unfortunately, it's not quite, but it does have its moments. The many focus is get salemen in the applience department to push Sears new Coldspot Timebank, rather than the basic chest freezer. This is done through what Calvin does best, a series of short sight gags and skits, including Laugh-In staples like "Sock It To Me" and Johnson's peeping German. The best bits are when Judy Carne is doing her best Gracie Allen to frustrate salesman Johnson, playing off the name "Time Bank".

Also of note is the film manages to get a couple digs at their rivals of the time, Montgomery Wards ("Monkey Wards") and Western Auto. No wonder there is a title at the screen saying it was strictly for internal training and not for sales or television.

alejandro jodorowsky

.Take some time and Get to know this interesting...

...artist.

In 1962 he created the Panic Movement, together with Roland Topor and Fernando Arrabal. He has also worked with famous artists such as Marcel Marceau, Maurice Chevalier, H.R. Giger, Dan O'Bannon, Jean Giraud (Mœbius).

On December 3, 2005, dressed in a robe like the one he wore in his film The Holy Mountain, he officiated at the non-denominational marriage ceremony of friend Marilyn Manson and Dita Von Teese at Castle Gurteen in Kilsheelan, home of artist Gottfried Helnwein, in Tipperary, Ireland. After the marriage dissolved, Jodorowsky stated in an interview : "I told Marilyn Manson: 'You are a performance. I do not know you without make-up, no one knows you without make-up.' He married this girl, she is also a performer and when he married it was performance. When reality comes after it is not possible for them. Now he is with a girl with humanity." [1] Manson has also stated that Jodorowsky influenced his entire visual style.

Jodorowsky once said, "Most directors make films with their eyes. I make films with my cojones."

The Zimmers - My Generation

Formed in early 2007, The Zimmers are not only the oldest gigging band in the world (with an average age of 78), they are also the most celebrated, having recorded their debut album at the famous Abbey Road Studios, under the watchful eye of Acclaimed Producer Mike Hedges.

Oh and by the way, don't tell them you think this is funny, with more aggression than Nirvana and more talent than The Beatles, these OAP's are here to stay. Their first single 'My Generation' is released on May 14th. Expect it to climb faster than a Stenna Stair Lift!

Other songs in THE ZIMMERS repertoire include 'Firestarter' by The Prodigy, 'When I'm (one hundred and)64' by The Beatles and the live favorite (Jermain Stewarts worldwide hit) 'We Don't have to take our clothes off (to have a good time)'.

Norm Grabowski

Kookie

"American hot rod builder Norm Grabowski is best known for creating an influential T-bucket hot rod that was used in the television show 77 Sunset Strip.

By far this is the most famous T-bucket. One night in 1957 Norm and Franco Castanza where cruising up and down the local strip. Life magazine was also out cruising and looking for kids and cars just like Norm and his T. The Life magazine article on hot rods exposed the world to Norm and his ride.

Two years earlier, Hotrod Magazine had done a feature acticle on Norm and his "Lightening Bug" feather light with a feel for the road. This car soon became known as the Kookie car."

Kookie 2 - Norm and the late Ed "Big Daddy" Roth 1998.

Norm Grabowski

The car was featured on the cover of the October, 1955 cover of Hot Rod Magazine and later in the April 29, 1957 issue of Life Magazine.

As a consequence of the magazine exposure, Grabowski was approached about renting the car out to appear in movies and television shows. The contacts he made in this way led to an acting career for Grabowski. He appeared in many movies and television shows, including Roustabout, Girl Happy, and The Many Loves of Dobie Gillis.

Grabowski is known as a wood carver, and many hot rods and custom cars feature his unique hand-carved skull gearshift knobs.

Album art from hell

Gertrude Behanna - God Isn't Dead! (1964)

Is it just me, or does this album cover have some serious mixed messages going on? The contrast of the prim and proper middle-aged Christian woman and repudation of Nietzche's famed quote to a giagantic line of booze bottles and a hypodermic needle full of heroin is just a bit strange. Is the woman in the corner beckoning us as a sinful harlot or is she hoping for release from her colorful glass prison? Maybe she just has a migraine from trying to figure out this stuff too, or maybe she's the afformentioned Late Liz, too late to show up clearly on the album cover and thus doomed to loom in shadow forever. If nothing else, Gertrude's huge, dopey smile indicates that she might've been partaking from some of those bottles in the background herself.

Jimmy Jenson - Understand Your'e Swede
"Here's Johnny!"

The axe and the bag containing recent prey illude to tales untold, meanwhile the family clan awaits his return with glee. Little do they know what is in store for them.

Robert Selander

A year or 2 ago I went to a show called Evil Dead Live in San Francisco.

It was a live theater performance loosly based on the Evil Dead series of movies.

Robert Selander played the Bruce Campbell character in the Play. This is a video of his performance of the Hand Fight.

You can see more of Robert's videos here.

One of my favorites from his collection was the Death Metal Barbershop Quartet.

Tom Poston 1922-2007

Tom passed away recently. I always enjoyed his work.

Tom played many lovable characters on many TV shows and in many movies. He also appeared on many game shows including the To Tell The Truth episode I highlighted earlier when Kitty Carlisle pass away.

He appeared in this flavor of the Bob Newhart show as George the Handyman.

Here is an apisode called George's Dream.

Tom also appeared on the Steve Alan Show, here as an MC for a Hipster group called the The Unidentified Flying Objects.
