Two Lane Blacktop

James Taylor as the Driver
Dennis Wilson as the Mechanic
Warren Oats as G.T.O.
Laurie Bird - as the Girl
I saw this movie while visiting relatives in Pennsylvania. They had on-demand movies and this was one of the free movies they had available for viewing.
The movie is slow moving, but entertaining if for nothing more than the fact that we are seeing James Taylor and Dennis Wilson (the only surfer in the Beach Boys), along with Warren Oats who supplies the acting skills and humor that keep it moving.
Laurie Bird is cute, but wow, what a strange chick in this film. Willing to hook up with anybody on a whim, and some bizzare dialogue. Laurie Bird was living with Art Garfunkel when she committed suicide in their Manhattan penthouse. Art Garfunkel wrote the prose poem series "Still Water" in his attempt to deal with her death. She appeared in 2 other movies that I know of, Annie Hall (1977 - Tony Lacey's Girl Friend) and again with Warren Oats in Cockfighter (1974).
Dennis Wilson is sometimes entertaining, but his acting skills aren't really up to the challenge here.
James Taylor is downright monotone, emotionless and sorta odd. This was his film debut, but he never pursued an acting career.
The cars might be the real stars of the movie. 2 cars are featured prominently. A souped up '55 Chevy and a G.T.O. described in detail by Warren Oats in a clip below.
