One Halloween when I was a kid, I made a Snorky costume. Snorky was the woolly elephant. I loved the 6 wheeled dune buggies. Always wanted one of those.

It's been a while since I worked at the corporation, but this would have been a welcome addition. We always had trouble booking a conference room!

Get your Planet Ages

Enter your age and this will calculate the number of days and years specific to each of the planets in our solar system. In this example we pretend Pluto is still a full fledged planet. It's just hard to drop the habit sometimes.

Go here to try it yourself.

Buffalo buffalo Buffalo buffalo buffalo buffalo Buffalo buffalo

"Buffalo buffalo Buffalo buffalo buffalo buffalo Buffalo buffalo" is a grammatically correct sentence used as an example of how homonyms and homophones can be used to create complicated constructs. It has been discussed in literature since 1972 when the sentence was used by William J. Rapaport, currently an associate professor at the University at Buffalo.[1] It was posted to Linguist List by Rapaport in 1992.[2] It was also featured in Steven Pinker's 1994 book The Language Instinct. Sentences of this type, although not in such a refined form, have been known for a long time. A classic example is the proverb "Don't trouble trouble until trouble troubles you".

The Buffalo Theory

One afternoon at Cheers, Cliff Clavin was explaining the Buffalo Theory
to his buddy Norm. and here's how he explained it:

"Well ya see, Norm, it's like this... A herd of buffalo can only move as
fast as the slowest buffalo. And when the herd is hunted, it is the
slowest and weakest ones at the back that are killed first. This natural
selection is good for the herd as a whole, because the general speed and
health of the whole group keeps improving by the regular killing of the
weakest members. In much the same way, the human brain can only operate
as fast as the slowest brain cells. Excessive intake of alcohol, as we
know, kills brain cells. But naturally it attacks the slowest and weakest
brain cells first. In this way, regular consumption of beer eliminates
the weaker brain cells, making the brain a faster and more efficient
machine. That's why you always feel smarter after a few beers."

This is also why the really smart folks are from Buffalo.

Jet Man

I don't understand French, but through sub-titles I see that Yves Rossy (the man who is featured as Jet Man a.k.a. Fusion Man) is a former Military Pilot and now an Airline Pilot.

He has developed jet powered wings which are attached to his back. He can steer by moving his arms. Lands via Parachute.

I was turned on to this when someone compared this to the flight scenes in the Upcoming Iron Man movie. Which by the way looks like another fun romp through Marvel world with Stan Lee.

Marty Allen's Daughter?

I have been looking for a reason to mention Marty Allen. This may be a crummy angle, but it works for me.

The XBox commercial below features a woman that reminded me of him.

Jan Svankmajer's-Food

1934 - Present

Czechoslovak animator extraordinaire, Jan has been making intensely bizarre films since the mid-'60s. Most of his work is a mix between 3-D stop-motion animation, puppets and live-action, but it can involve any mix of the above. His stories are eerie, delightful, and surreal. His actors include real people, machines, socks, clay figures, antique dolls, pencil sharpeners, and skeletons or stuffed corpses of animals, among other things. His sets are usually decaying Czech buildings or landscapes, decorated with waste of the industrial age: rotting furniture, rusty nails, sawdust, oily screws, and the like. More on Jan here
